Provide primary investigative services to the rural areas of Dakota County including all townships. Assist all other police agencies in Dakota County with "major crime" investigations when requested.
Crimes investigated by "General Investigations" are broken down into two types:
- Crimes Against Persons: Refers to crimes which are committed by direct physical harm or force being applied to another person. These crimes include Homicides, Assaults, Domestic Assaults, Sexual Assaults, Robbery, Child Abuse, Child Sexual Abuse, Kidnapping, Harrassment, and Stalking.
- Crimes Against Property: Refers to a crime that destroys or deprives an owner of property against the owner's will. These crimes are considered less serious than violent crimes, or crimes against persons. These crimes include Theft, Burglary, Damage to Property, Vehicle Theft, Arson, Shoplifting, and Fraud.
