Internship Program

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office Internship Program is designed for students pursuing careers in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Criminal Justice, or any other closely related field. Interns will be provided the opportunity to shadow staff within various divisions such as Patrol, Transport, Courts, Investigations and Detention Services.

Through this program, interns will gain a diverse range of knowledge and experience. If you are interested in the program, complete the application at the link on the bottom of this section. Completed applications must be submitted to:

  • Resume and cover letter describing your career goals and objectives, academic and personal accomplishments, work experiences and other skills and qualifications relevant to this internship.

  • Letter from your advisor/instructor stating the internship is required to receive college credit and or to graduate.

  • A description/syllabus describing the expectations and requirements of the internship.

  • Official college transcript.

  • Interns must be 18 years of age and have a flexible schedule as hours available may be during the day and/or evening and weekends.

  • Candidates must successfully complete a Background Investigation.
