The Transport Division is responsible for the physical transportation of inmates to ensure they make their court appearances and medical appointments. The goal of the division is to maintain public safety while conducting each transport in a secure and professional manner. On a monthly basis, deputies travel about 13,500 miles to pick up inmates from detention facilities across the State of Minnesota and the United States. About 1,400 individuals are transported per month; a fleet of specially equipped and well-maintained vehicles makes this possible.
The Dakota County Sheriff's Office has special arrangements with surrounding agencies which streamlines the transportation process. These arrangements have been made to alleviate the burden on local taxpayers by reducing the amount of miles traveled.
